We believe in putting democracy before politics
Sometimes candidates are elected without receiving a majority of votes. And when a super majority is required to pass significant federal legislation, society’s most critical needs are often neglected.
The Center aims to engage in innovative nonpartisan education, advocacy, and research approaches to support an effective and responsive democracy.
Protecting Our Elections
The Founders could not have imagined today’s threats to our elections. The Center for Election Reform is focused on protecting election integrity by bringing consistency as well as state-of-the-art technology to the voting process.
Our youth cannot be expected to participate in a democracy without understanding the processes of government and the importance of voting.
We will support middle school and high school education projects, programs, and curricula designed to produce informed future voters.
Gerrymandering & Redistricting
U.S. Census counts almost always require the formation of new election districts with substantially equal populations. The party in power often attempts to establish districts that favor incumbents, thereby eliminating competition. In many cases, these gerrymandered districts discriminate and dilute the effectiveness of the out-of-power political party’s voters. The Center supports districts that do not favor any person or political party and that foster responsive representation.
Education
Far too many qualified voters are faced with tactics that are used to frustrate or lock them out of the voting process altogether. Misinformation and dis-information coupled with difficult to obtain voter identification, insufficient and under-staffed polling locations are all designed to discourage voters from casting ballots.
We are committed to seeing that every qualified citizen can register and vote easily, safely, and effectively
