Trustee Steven Lefelt is Secretary/Treasurer of the Center. In 2007, he retired from the New Jersey Superior Court Appellate Division as one of eight New Jersey Presiding Appellate Judges. He began his professional career practicing law in South Jersey. Thereafter, he became Associate Director of the Institute for Continuing Legal Education; Associate Dean for Administration and Director of Admissions at Rutgers Law School - Newark; a New Jersey Administrative Law Judge and Deputy Director of the Office of Administrative Law; and a Superior Court trial judge in Middlesex County, before being promoted to the Appellate Division. Since his retirement, he has been studying voting issues, redistricting, and the various problems related to gerrymandering. He is a Visiting Associate at Eagleton Institute of Politics, and in 2020, he co-founded the Center with Judge Francis. For New Jersey’s 2021-22 Congressional redistricting he was Special Counsel to the Chairperson of New Jersey’s Congressional Redistricting Commission.
